It’s the Environment week – Did you connect with nature?

Teleperformance - 06.07.2017

How Teleperformance works hand-in-hand with nature, inspiring impact.

Home is where the heart is. While home can mean a number of things to each one of us individually, ultimately it is a place that evokes a sense of warmth, safety, and well-being. It’s a space where our memories and experiences lie. The planet is our HOME, it’s our mother EARTH.

Sometimes, between traffic congestion and hubbub of our contrived lives, it’s hard to take a deep breath and notice the natural environment around us, notice what’s changed as the world has grown or what’s threatened by that change. However, unlike any other species we share our planet with, humans demand more than the environment can provide, leading to its inevitable destruction. Pollution of air, water, and land is just one way that has ruined our planet.

We take all natural things such as air and water for granted. But, it’s time we stir our conscience and start taking action towards restoring our natural resources to sustain the beauty of the earth for generations to come. And we can do this by simply making the right choices. From the cars we drive to the products we use, all our actions have an impact on the environment. The choices that we make can bring a huge difference in the condition of the environment that hangs in balance.

Change can be simple, yet powerful!

Many of us must have read about Afroz Shah, a young Indian lawyer, who initiated the Versova beach clean-up and removed 5 million kgs of trash in 85 weeks with the help of hundreds of volunteers. Inspiring many and stirring a movement of volunteering based clean-up drives in the city with the citizens and for them. This is one of the finest recent examples of how a small gesture and will, could turn into a massive environment drive, which is exactly what we need.

At Teleperformance, we do a little bit of this to play our part in conserving nature and educating Teleperformers on the ways they can contribute towards it. We believe that small changes like improving indoor environmental quality, alternative transportation, employee education and involvement to extend green efforts to their homes and neighborhoods, in addition to the workplace can go a long way in promoting hands-on green practices. In fact, a substantial part of our induction process involves education on CSR and individual efforts each one can make to save our planet.

WorldEnvironmentDay 700x300

We are the Citizens of the Planet – Striving to be the Champions of the Planet.

Our global Citizen of the Planet (COTP) program drives our on-going efforts in reducing our carbon footprint. Aligned to the COTP program, we have been able to reduce our electricity usage to 33% less in last year by installing sustainable and efficient air conditioning systems and saved over 1,200,000 sheets of paper in 2016 through a paperless system. As we serve meals for our employees in the office, we also inducted a waste management system recently that turns food waste into manure to boost plant life and greenery in the office premises.

However, every World Environment Day celebrated on 5th June, we do something special to mobilize our efforts and motivate the champions of the planet – our employees – 80% of them millennials. This June 5th was no different as we started our day with a social media campaign about the importance of our natural resources across our digital channels – Twitter and Facebook driving engagement from all quarters throughout the day. And implored our employees to get outdoor and take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share through Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan – cleanliness drive across our centers, tree plantation drives within and around our campuses and an art and slogan competition to enhance climate literacy among these young brains across our 6 sites in Jaipur, Indore and Gurgaon. And as many as 500 employees participated in the event, working together in keeping the areas around their office clean and fresh.

On a daily basis, we ensure that all our employees’ spend 30 minutes each week to clean community areas and present on going education seminars on the importance of caring for the environment. In some ways, the World Environment Day has become a day of activities that helps our people connect with nature and take action.
