Inspired to Move Mountains

Teleperformance - 04.03.2023

After becoming the first double above-knee amputee to reach the summit Mount Kilimanjaro, our Inspired to be the Best athlete James Rose reached another feat: he climbed Mount Toubkal in southwestern Morocco, the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and in North Africa at 4,167 meters.

James’ expedition to climb Mount Toubkal is his personal goal three years in the making – and today, we’re excited to invite you to watch “Inspired to Move Mountains,” a documentary that narrates and shows James’ inspiring journey to reach the summit of the highest peak in North Africa.

James’ passion for climbing mountains started at a young age. “I’ve been obsessed with mountains, all my life really, as far back as I remember,” James shares. “When we were on holiday when we were kids, I used to say to my mom, ‘Can you take me to the mountains? I want to see them!’”

After facing many challenges and delays in training, his Mount Toubkal journey finally began on June 20, 2022 as he traveled from London to Marrakesh.

Overcoming Challenges

Resilience and determination fuel James, allowing him to reach the top in the face of adversity and the many challenges thrown his way. For James, the path going to Mount Toubkal’s summit required absolute concentration, physical strength, resilience, and willpower to push forward. Rough and rocky terrain made the expedition difficult and challenging, making him take two steps up and go backward five times. However, James was motivated: “There’s just one aim and that is to get to the top. I don’t want to get back into where it was dark all again, so just get up there any means possible,” he says.

Before summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, James went through a period of depression and anxiety as a result of losing both legs during his time as a British Army Veteran. However, he was able to get himself on the road to recovery thanks to the support of his wife and friends. When asked about his reason for climbing, James responds: “Getting to the top, it’s absolutely exhilarating halfway up. Obviously, the purpose is for my own well-being, and to help raise awareness for mental health.”

Summit Day

On June 23, 2022, James successfully reached the top of Mount Toubkal. In the documentary, James is seen reflecting on his journey as he is surrounded by exhilarating views. He lets the viewers in on his thoughts about inspiration, and how nothing is impossible. “I’d say inspiration is probably someone who’s suffered hardship, who’s suffered major injuries, or they’ve been through mental health – and have been on the brink of not wanting to be here – then they’ve pushed themselves to the limit and show to other people that anything can be done,” he states.

Teleperformance is proud to accompany James throughout his journey, and we will always be inspired by his strong determination, passion to achieve milestones, and his relentless drive to push boundaries in order to overcome challenges.

“Just to stand on the top of Mount Toubkal was absolutely amazing. It’s exhilarating – it’s just something that you can’t explain for an amputee like myself,” James muses. “It’s like getting up there and you’re just stood on top of the highest mountain in North Africa, and it’s absolutely amazing.”
