United for a Better World: Together in Reaching Sustainable Development Goals

Clementine Gauthier - 10.26.2021

Through Teleperformance’s corporate social responsibility initiatives including Citizen of the World, Citizen of the Planet, and our strong commitment to the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, we believe that we can make a powerful impact that can positively change lives. The Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative that aims to guide organizations to do business responsibly, encouraging companies to align its operations with the Global Compact’s ten fundamental principles. As a Global Compact member and signatory since 2011, Teleperformance remains committed to protecting human rights, eliminating discrimination, taking action to support environmental responsibilities, and rejecting corruption.

Together with the UN, Teleperformance envisions a better world for all. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) act as a “blueprint to achieve a better and a more sustainable future for all.” According to the UN, these 17 SDGs define the world we want and apply to all nations, ensuring no one gets left behind. Teleperformance mainly focuses on supporting the following SDGs:

  • Goal 1: No poverty. As a leading employer in most of the regions where it operates especially in developing countries where it employs 70% of its workforce, Teleperformance is committed to having a positive impact on local economies and, more generally, on people’s lives. Providing decent jobs and fair compensation to its growing workforce of over 380,000 employees in 83 countries is one of the most efficient ways to lift local communities out of poverty. To further ensure that we continuously provide competitive renumeration to our employees, we have partnered with Wage Indicator to analyze and compare Teleperformance’s local salaries against local living wages[1]. By doing so, our employees would have right and fair salaries to match their basic needs of food, housing, and other essentials.

  • Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth. More people in decent jobs means stronger and more inclusive economic growth. As a major employer in several developing countries, Teleperformance helps fight unemployment and poverty by offering decent jobs to hundreds of thousands of people and providing a fair income, security in the workplace, social protection, and a career path even in times of crisis. It particularly contributes to the integration of women and young people often excluded from the working world.

  • Goal 10: Reduced inequalities. A huge part of making this world a better place for all is ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and with decency, without any prejudice. As a Force of Good, Teleperformance serves as a steppingstone towards brighter careers for young people: in 2020, 85,000 agents were hired for their very first professional experience[2].

Teleperformance has also been a member of the Global Impact Sourcing Coalition (GISC) since its creation. As of December 31, 2020, more than 70,000 impact workers were hired worldwide, from which 6,000 are people with different types of physical and cognitive impairments. We continue to provide formal employment opportunities to people who would otherwise struggle to gain access: the long-term unemployed, people below the poverty line, people with disabilities, refugees, and veterans.

Lastly, Teleperformance’s values centered on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) also remain strong. Our approach to DEI is supported by five pillars[3]: gender equality, integration of people with disabilities, promoting professional equality for people from the LGBTQIA+ community, promoting multiculturalism at all levels, and consideration of the local diversity challenges specific to each entity. Driven by this approach, we are able to support our employees, clients, and our clients’ customers better.

Teleperformance strives to uphold and promote the UN’s ten fundamental principles and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As we celebrate the 76th anniversary of the UN, we stand with them by continuing to improve the quality of life for our people, our local communities, and the world we live in.
