Does everyone in your team feel an integral part of your ecosystem?
The recent buzz around planning online world cup campaign for team India, employee engagement team’s excitement in organizing Women’s day celebration at work, the latest Supervisor win at Teleperformance India, or all the previous victories during For Fun Festival set me thinking.
In my opinion, for any organization to truly prosper and carry its tenured workforce along, one factor governs all. Culture bleeds into everything, from mindset to performance.
That is why many leading HR leaders worldwide are now advocating the idea of keeping HR centrally relevant to all the other functions of the organization; only a figure in the center with 360-degree understanding and experience could really be the optimum influence on shaping company’s culture. Teleperformance India is benefitting from such a move since two years now!
In order to deliver well collectively, every employee must feel committed, engaged, resilient and excited, all at once. An employee must trust the system with the knowledge of his/her competitiveness and believe that there will be a fair assessment of his/her strength, weakness and capabilities and this will propel a lot scope for growth and development not only professionally but interpersonally.
This is how CULTURE governs teams within the office ecosystem. This is how it governs my teams here in India. Analyzing our stance, these I feel are a few these cultural must-haves that can create a great work environment.
WILL FACTOR
Employees already arrive with certain influence guided by many personal factors. But, can we raise someone’s will to perform? The dynamics have to shift from a push to pull. That is, each one must be self-driven and motivated enough to aim for better productivity and quality with a measured effort.
TRUST
One definitely accelerates concentration and performance for the causes one believes in! If there is mutual trust and each team player feels like a stakeholder, there is sustained growth. An agent has to trust the supervisor who has to trust the management and other support functions that will help in accelerating performance.
RESPECT
Respect is the fundamental ask of every human resource, a cause of most dissatisfaction cases than rest. Each team player must feel valued like an important stakeholder and this will enhance his/her productivity beyond measure.
It’s important for leaders to learn the art of cheerleading.
Identification of individual contribution, a genuine acknowledgment for each contribution, celebrating small wins to make the employee across functions feel noticed. It creates a zeal that integrates personal aspirations with the organizational goals.
TRANSPARENCY
Does the same message flow across all levels and to all departments? It is very important to be transparent in your communication at all levels. No organizational communication should come across as secretive or misleading, and that is the right recipe to retain an ever engaging workforce.
GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES
This is the best way to make employees feel an integral part of the system. Recognize individual performance and contribution by offering opportunities to develop skills via fair evaluation and strong training pedagogy.
This also benefits the organizations to be future ready.
This piece continuously focuses on one, each, every, and individual. Since human resource assets, we feel are the most important. Each one of the teams and every member therein must gel in to create the right culture. This assignment is not only one team’s project; it is indeed a collective aim. That is how the spirit flows correctly, and empowers the environment and ethics at great workplaces.
This is how great cultures make yet greater brands!
